My last year in my 20s!

Friday is my 29th Birthday!! While I am so so happy to say good riddance to 28, it has been a shitty year, I am nervous about being 29. Only because I'm making so many changes in my life that I sometimes wish I was younger than I am. Going back to school at 29, for something completely new is terrifying.

It's also something I know without a doubt the right move for me right now. And I know that I would have never been able to pursue baking and culinary without having gone through what I've been through in the past. I find it ironic that I took me losing over a 100 pounds to discover my passion in cooking, but it's true.

When I was heavy I couldn't imagine standing up for long periods of time. Hell I wouldn't even go out to bars when I was overweight for fear of not being able to find a seat. Me losing weight has opened up an entire new world for me. And oddly I'm not even a little bit worried that I'll gain this weight back by becoming a baker. I know better now, I know how to enjoy myself and find balance with my eating.

Growing up, I never pictured myself with a desk job. I wanted to be a makeup artist, a photographer, a chef, anything that was non-traditional. My mom and my fears forced me to study something more realistic when choosing a major in college. It was fear that made me stay stagnant for many years. Fear of the unknown. Fear of actually succeeding and not knowing what to do next. Fear of being happy for once in my life.

I had a lot of growing up to do, and learning to love and accept myself in order to go after what I want in life. That took roughly 28 years to get here, and that was the way it had to happen. I'm still scared of what's to come, but I know to trust myself now and to go forward. I know that even in failure, I'll be able to pick myself back up again and move on. I know how strong I can be and that is worth everything.

As a gift to myself for 29, I'm taking my birthday and all of next week off from work!! WHOOO HOOO! I cannot wait to relax and hopefully enjoy a lot of beach time! Happy 4th of July if I don't check back in while I'm gone.

Back from Mexico! Pics!

I am back to reality from my awesome trip to Mexico. It was a vacation that I really needed and one that I won't soon forget. It was only 5 days long but it was awesome from beginning to end, and now I'm back to rainy NJ.

I went away with 4 other girls to an all inclusive near Cancun. We got an insane deal for the whole thing, rooms, flight, all inclusive. It was just way too good to pass up! The resort we stayed out was awesome. I highly recommend it. The food was delicious, the drinks even better. There was a huge pool with a slide and a cliff jump and it was right on the beach, where they had boating and kayaks available to use. So much fun!

The view from my hotel! So pretty

Out to dinner with my three favorite girls

I have always had a bucket list of things I want to do. This trip gave me the ability to conquer two of them! When I was overweight and away once, everyone I went with did ziplining. I couldn't go though because there was a weight limit. It killed me to not be able to go and I knew that one day I would do it. This trip allowed me to finally go ziplining!!! One of the best things ever! I want to do it again and again now!

Me getting ready to zip line for the first time.

On my way down!

I even got to go upside down on them. Which was terrifying at first but really fun once you stopped feeling like you were gonna die. haha

I look like a pro here. :)

After ziplining we went out on ATVs. I was not the best driver, but still a really cool experience.

Finally here I am conquering another item on my bucket list. You can see I'm screaming haha. Going down a zip line into water. I'm not scared of heights per se, but I am scared of jumping. The last obstacle race I did, there was a cliff jump that I didn't do. I got to the top and froze. I couldn't make the jump. I was so embarrassed that I vowed to myself to get over this fear and finally do it! I also jumped down from that ledge as well. Now I am ready for the next Tough Mudder!

Splashing down.

The rest of the trip was spent just relaxing and getting some sun. I feel so much better than I have in months. This trip has really taught me to let go. To face my fears head on and experience the world and everything in it. Now I am on to the rest of my bucket list. Which includes running my first half marathon on Sunday! EEK!

Reunited

I had a great weekend. I took off work last Friday to spend the day with my niece. She's finally back in the US for good and they spent a few days in NJ before heading down to there home in DC. It was a great day and so worth me missing a day of work for. We went to the beach and then to a BBQ that afternoon. She is fearless in the water. It's amazing.

Loving the sand and the waves

She loved getting knocked around by all the waves. She would hold my hands and then kick out her feet!

Then on Saturday we went up to visit my grandma. Since a lot of my family haven't seen my niece in well over a year, we had a little party. It was great and my niece looked adorable in her little party dress.

Here we are on my grandma's stoop.

The weekend was great but ended way to fast. I miss her already but am looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks. It's great know that they are only a car ride away now. No longer a very long plane ride! I am looking forward to seeing them much more often and creating awesome memories with her.

Family Fun

This past weekend was really busy and fun for me.

On Friday night I got together with two of my oldest friends. We spent the night laughing and looking at old yearbook pictures. I can't believe how awful I looked when I was in middle school. haha. It was a great night and there was so much laughter. I really needed that.

Saturday my brother and I went to the shooting range together. This was the first time I've ever been! I was so freaked out when we got there. It's so loud and there's shells flying all over. It was really overwhelming. Thankfully after a few rounds I started to get the hang of it and felt a little more comfortable. Now I can't wait to go back there and practice some more.

After that we went to my twin cousins graduation party. Thankfully the heat wave broke and the weather was perfect on Saturday. There was a lot of family there that I hadn't seen in a few years, it was nice to catch up with everyone. Also we got to take a family picture which was great.

Here is a picture of my mom, brothers and my grandma being totally inappropriate trying to grab my brother's package. lol. My family is crazy and I love it.

Sunday I got to hit the beach again. It was packed! I had to fight for a little piece of sand. I have never seen the beach that crowded before. The water was also really rough. I saw two people getting rescued because of the current.

All in all though it was a great weekend. Jam packed but a lot of fun! This coming weekend my friends from college are coming up for a visit. I can't wait for them to get here. I want this week to go a little faster already.

Great way to kick off the summer!! (Pics)

This weekend flew by for me. It was so much fun though and is making me look forward to this summer and all that it holds for me!!

Friday I went to a PBA Ball. Basically it was an excuse to dress up and eat my face off. There was an open bar too, but I decided to not partake being that I was running a 5 mile race the next morning. It was a lot of fun though. I enjoyed watching other people get tipsy and make fools of themselves. I sadly didn't get to win any of the raffle prizes though. My heart was set on a 4 pack to Disney, which would have been perfect since I'm going there in October! Despite that, I had a blast.

All dressed up and ready to dance!

I didn't get home until Midnight and because of the race the next day I was so nervous I didn't fall asleep until 2! I got about 4 hours of sleep before I had to head out for the race. This was my first 5 mile race. It's called the Spring Lake 5 and it's a HUGE race here in NJ. About 10,000 people run this race every year. I've never seen anything like it before. Total craziness.

You felt like cattle at the start of the race. So many people packed in together. It was hard to start too, after a few zig zags I was able to break away and get a good pace going. It was really hot though. I had never ran in such heat before, it's a total shock to your body. By mile 2 I wanted it to be over and done. It was then that I stopped worrying about my time and just focused on NOT walking. I really wanted to get under 50 minutes but I wasn't going to kill myself. This race was really cool though, all along the course they were blasting music and there were fire trucks spraying water at you at every mile. Which was heaven to me.

I am happy to say I did not walk and finished in 49:31!!! Yay!! I got under 50 minutes. I'm so proud that I didn't quit and I made my goal. If it had been cooler I know I got have gotten a better time, but I'll take this. Also I knew a woman who has been a runner all her life and I came in a good 6 minutes before her. That made my day.

After the race, I rushed home, took a shower and headed up north to my cousins graduation party. The difference in weather was crazy! It was bright and sunny in my town, an hour north at my cousin's party it was pouring rain and thundering. Thankfully they had a giant tent set up so we didn't get wet. It was great to see my family. I had some family come up from Florida who I hadn't seen in a while. I was exhausted though. I tried to sneak upstairs for a nap, but it was way too noisy. I still had a lot of fun, but was happy when we got back on the road.

My mom and grandma! and me beat red from sunburn. lol

After we got back, I stopped by a friend's BBQ for a little. I cut out early and headed home for some much needed sleep. I slept in on Sunday until 10:30. That never happens to me! I guess my body really needed that sleep. I spent Sunday being lazy and did some shopping. I just needed me time that day.

Monday I went to the beach! I had to. It was beautiful out and even though it was crazy crowded I had to kick off my summer with a trip there. I bought a season pass and I really hope to get good use out of it this year! I love the beach. It's like home to me.

How did you kick off your summer?

Weekend Snapshot*

My view from the beach this weekend!

*Do you like this weekend snapshot thing? This is the second time I've done it. I think it's a good alternative to just recapping my weekends, which can seem redundant sometimes I think.

Melting

It is way too hot out!! Its days like this that make me start craving the fall, with its crisp cool air. I know I need to enjoy the rest of the summer and this heat, but we need a little relief here!! It needs to rain or something. Ugh, it's so gross.

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend!! Mine was spent sunning myself at the beach and the pool. I also got to see some fireworks on Saturday. It definitely brings the kid out in me when I see them. I went to a BBQ on Saturday and the person lived right near where the fireworks went off. It was great to see them from the backyard and not have to deal with the massive amounts of people that were in town that day.

How was your weekend? Did you see any fireworks?

Stay Cool!

Summer Kickoff

This past weekend officially marked the start of summer for me. Sure most people look to Memorial Day as the start, but for me summer doesn’t start until I hit the beach for the first time.

That’s exactly what I did on Saturday. It was so hot and humid out, it was the perfect day to hit the beach. Surprisingly there was no traffic getting to the beach. I live pretty close to the beach but usually as I get closer to one of the bridges, that takes me to the actual beach, I always hit some kind of traffic on the weekends. It was weird to not hit any traffic and for there to be so few cars on the road at that time. Then when we got to the beach, we found out that it was FREE that day!!! Talk about the perfect way to kick off the day and the summer for me!!!!

The beach was lovely. The weather channel said it was supposed to rain but it couldn’t have been more gorgeous at the beach. I can get antsy at the beach if I sit still for too long, but I had a book so I was set for the day.

It was so hot though that you had to go in the water. It was freezing, but felt refreshing after baking in the sun. Plus I’m a total water girl, so I can’t NOT go swimming if I am near a body of water.

The only downside to the day was the sunburn and weird tan lines I got. I never ever can just get an even tan. I always get weird tan lines and sunburns, so that my skin looks freaky all summer long. Last year my left foot got burned the first day in the sun so for the rest of the summer my foot just kept on getting darker and darker and the rest of my leg couldn’t catch up. It looked dirty by the end of the summer. lol. This year, my bathing suit had a ring where the strap goes through to go up around your neck halter style. So of course I got a little red dot on Saturday on my chest. lol. Also I did a terrible job at putting the sunscreen on the back of my legs so they are all splotchy. It’s pretty sexy. ;)

What event or activity signals the start of summer for you?

Everything Irie

I really have no idea where to start about my vacation. It was so beautiful down there and there was just so much stuff to do at the resort. Usually when you stay at an all-inclusive place the food, drinks, tip and things are included. A lot of times though any kind of water activity you may want to do aren’t. With this place they included tons of activities that I was so happy about! I usually tend to get ADD and really restless when I sit at the beach all day long. Here I didn’t have to worry about that because I was able to break up my day with funs things to do!

There was a trampoline in the ocean with was so much fun to go on.

There were paddleboats and kayaks you could take out whenever.

We did a glass bottom boat tour that was so cool.

The guy who did our tour apparently had a crush on me (more on that later) and took me and my friends out on the catamaran after the glass bottom boat and took us all around. That was by far my favorite thing.

Other things they offered that we didn’t get a chance to do were water skiing (I can’t because of my knee) and the banana boats (broken for the WHOLE week).

On top of all the activities they were always organizing games on the land. Whether it be volleyball, horseshoes or trivia there was always something going on.

They also were also playing music throughout the place from either a DJ or a live band. Although my only complaint about the music was this place LOVED the electric slide. They must have played that song literally 10 times a day! The best was when one of the bands played the song. They were three really old guys singing an acoustic slow version of the song. It was hilarious to hear it played like that. Especially the boogie oogie part. lol.

At night they had a show in the main area of the resort. If you didn’t want to see the show you could walk to the other side of the resort and go to the Jetty Bar, which was by far my favorite place. Instead of stools at the bar you sat on swings! Isn’t that the best idea ever?? You would get your drink and can sip and swing. Heaven.

The resort is technically only 3 Star, but honestly because of the service there it should be higher. The staff does their best to keep you happy and entertained. Also the front desk was really helpful and friendly. We had a problem with our room and right away we were able to switch to a much more comfortable room. Then that room had some ants in the bathroom but again right away they sent someone up and we had no more bugs.

All in all this is a place I would defiantly consider going to again in the future.

Since I don’t want to make this a super long post I am breaking it up. Each day this week will be a new post. Tomorrow will be pictures!

One is the loneliness number

This past weekend was a blast. It really felt like summer, especially since it was so hot and humid out you couldn’t go outside for 2 seconds without sweating and your hair frizzing out! Anyway on Saturday my friends and I went to this bar that’s on the beach. It was for an event called Dunesday.

Basically, we got their at noon set up on the beach and tanned, went swimming, drank a lot, ate a lot and listened to music for the entire day. It was heaven. For the most part it was really nice out. It got cloudy and rained a little for like an hour but then the sky cleared back up again.

I had a blast but around 5:30 I was freezing and was covered in sand. I was just really uncomfortable. I headed home earlier than my friends but it gave me time to rest up for going out that night.

I was really tired so I wasn’t really up for going out that night. At the same time I didn’t want to be a Debbie downer either. The people who went out was my best friend, her boyfriend, our friend J and her friend from work S. S is a guy who is married but his wife was out of town that weekend.

That night he defiantly did not act like his was married at all. He was completely inappropriate with J. Like 2 seconds from making out inappropriate. I kept on calling him J’s husband for the day. (I would give some background on J herself but this post isn’t really about them) Also he wanted to fight people, which was really annoying and immature. What is with guys who are drunk just wanting to fight? However his actions were none of my business.

The thing that bothered me was when we were all on the dance floor dancing together. All of a sudden my friend and her BF started to dance together and then J and S started to bump and grind and there I was right next to them all by myself. I was so uncomfortable just standing there with what looked like 2 couples and a fifth wheel. Just thinking of it now makes me feel uncomfortable.

I am defiantly not one of those people who gets jealous of her friend’s happiness or when they date someone, but that night right there on the dance floor I felt lonely. Heart-wrenchingly lonely. I was on the verge of tears the loneliness was so strong. What surprised me the most were those feelings. I have never felt like that when I go out with my friends but I guess it was the mixture of awkwardness and the acute realization that I really want a someone special in my life that mad me so upset.

I feel like it’s impossible to meet anyone. I need put myself out there more but 1) I don’t really know how to and 2) I am still suffering from crazy self-esteem issues. I just feel like I’m in this weird Catch-22 right now. I want a boyfriend but at the same time I don’t want to have a boyfriend just so I can feel complete. I want to feel complete with or without a man in my life.

Despite that one moment, which really only lasted like a half hour I still had fun that night. The weekend was tapped off lying by my friend’s pool all day. Although it was so hot out that I was basically in the pool the entire time. My hands were like prunes when I got home!

Have you ever been that lonely? Or jealous of a friend’s happiness?

Contentment

I had a really nice long weekend. It was really laid back which was exactly what I needed.

Friday I went to the beach in the morning and it was great, until it started pouring at noon. Which was fine. I tend to get ADD if I’m at the beach for to long. I can’t seem to sit still. I got to the beach early that day so I was about ready to leave when it started to get cloudy. The rest of the day was me just relaxing followed by a trip to Ulta to use a gift card I got for my birthday. I love Ulta. I can literally spend hours in there wandering around.

Also I went to a friend’s house for a BBQ. Every year on the 3rd there is fireworks near me. It’s a really big event and loads of people come down. I love them but because of the amount of people we have to park about 2 miles away and walk to where they are. I’ve done it before but this year I was just not feeling it. I knew my foot wouldn’t be able to handle all the walking and standing so I just went to the BBQ and left when they all started walking. Honestly I wasn’t even that bummed out about missing them.

Saturday I headed to the beach again. I left really early to beat the traffic and it was gorgeous out! No humidity, plenty of sun and a nice breeze. To me there is nothing better then being on a beach reading a book. It was a great way to celebrate the holiday. The water was also really nice. It wasn’t crazy cold like it usually is. After I got bored I headed home to enjoy the rest of the day watching movies.

Sunday I went to a BBQ at family friends. It was good to see them and enjoy the day outside like that.

I was sad to have to go back to work today. It was such a nice weekend I didn’t want it to end! Also it made me sad that I have to wait almost 2 months until my vacation!! I ready to have a break NOW.

How was your Fourth of July?

Welcome Summer!

This past weekend was really lovely. I got out of work at 1pm on Friday (thank you summer Fridays!) and spent the day just unwinding and relaxing after a crazy week.

Saturday it was cloudy so my friend and I decided to hit the outlets. I got the cutest pair of Cole Haan flats for half off!! Did you know their shoes are made with Nike Air? It makes them super comfy.

For lunch we ate at this new restaurant called Bobby’s Burger Palace. It’s actually a restaurant chain by the food network guy Bobby Flay. Let me just say that I don’t really eat hamburgers but I am obsessed with these!! I had the best burger there! I can’t wait to go back and try a different kind.

After we ate the weather cleared up so I got my dogs, went to my friend’s house and went swimming with my dogs! They have never been in a pool before but they swam so well! It was the cutest thing ever. I think they even liked it. They kept on going to edge of the pool looking like they wanted to jump in. I would take them and put them in the water and they would swim right to the stairs!! I wish I had a camera. It was adorable.

That night a bunch of us headed out. We went to a club that is near the boardwalk and while I don’t really go to those places in the summer because of the traffic and, no offense, bennys, I had a blast. There was a great crowd and not too many people that you felt like you couldn’t move. Everyone was just having a good time and dancing like crazy.

Now I know some people have a problem with Benny’s, I do on occasion like when I’m stuck in traffic for an hour to get home which is five miles away, but they know how to have a good time. They just want to have fun and enjoy the summer. I only get mad when they are stereotypical and act like they OWN the Jersey Shore. That gets annoying. The only downside of the night was the fact that we parked about a mile away from the place to avoid paying for parking. My shoes that I wear all the time decided to fail on me that night and I got huge blisters that are still hurting me.

Sunday was an amazing day so a few of us hit the beach. The water was FREEZING but you got so hot that you didn’t even mind it. I still haven’t bought new sunscreen so I was forced to use a bottle that I found on the bottom of my closet. Not the best idea. I have sunburn in random places now. Like on the right side of my neck, the top of my left thigh, my feet (I always forget that part) and my forehead. lol. Nowhere else did I get burned. So now I look like a freak but that’s okay. Hopefully it will even out soon.

I feel like the summer has officially started. I’m not taking into account this crazy weather we are having today. Thunder and hail storms in June??? WTF.

Monday, June 8, 2009

Ouch!

Beach + really old sunscreen + faulty application = Really bad sunburn blotches all over. I look AWESOME.

Saturday Night + "comfy" shoes + parking really far away from bar = massive blisters on my toes that is so bad I can't even wear sneakers, only flip flops will do.

All is all a pretty awesome weekend. It was just what I needed after all that self-wallowing I've been doing.

More details to follow.

Ready for the summer!

I am defiantly ready for the summer. I can’t wait for the warm weather and summer Fridays at work where I actually get home by 3 pm! I also started thinking about where I will be going for vacation this year. I loved where I went last year and I hope to be as lucky this year with finding a place. My friend and I are going to start looking this weekend.

Even more proof that I’m ready?? I actually bought a bathing suit this past weekend! This is very much out of character for me. I am the type of person to only own one bathing suit and I only replace it when the one I own is slowly falling apart. The reason for this is I’m very picky when it comes to buying bathing suits. It takes forever for me to find something that I’m happy with and comfortable wearing. Imagine my surprise when I went to the mall this past weekend and found not one but TWO bathing suits that I loved.

Even though it is still months until I can start going to the beach, I just couldn’t resist. I only ended up buying one of the two bathing suits that I loved because I felt like I would be going out of control if I got two. However I am seriously considering throwing caution to the wind and getting the other one.

To bore you some more let me tell you about the suit. It’s a tankini, the only type of bathing suits I buy, with the bottoms just being plain black, but the top is super cute. It’s black with white polka dots that are reminiscent of a 1950s bathing suit. There is a little gathering by the bust and it is a halter-top but it has a kind of sweet heart neckline. I wish I could explain it better, but trust me it’s adorable. For me to be this excited about a bathing suit must mean it.

On top of that, I also bought a bunch of summer tops. I am defiantly ready for the summer!

What makes you excited about this summer?

Walking on sunshine

This past weekend was beautiful weather wise. It made me aware that spring is on its way, even though we still have a while to go. But this weekend made seem much closer. It even smelled like summer. Which I know sounds weird but summer defiantly has a distinct smell. I took my dog for a walk by the beach and he loved it just as much as me. He LOVES the sand and jumping in it. It makes him one seriously happy dog.

In other news I have off this coming Monday and to give myself a little break from work I decided to take off Friday and stretch it into a nice four-day weekend. I am very excited. It will hopefully re-energize me. I need it desperately.

Thursday Thoughts: where did the Summer go??

It’s been a crazy busy week for me work wise. I haven’t really had a moment to myself, hence the lack of posting. I might have to start writing when I get home instead. The last thing I want to do is stop blogging, which I am afraid will happen if I continue this. By the way is it bloging or blogging? Oh well. I’ve tried keeping journals in the past, but I always forgot about them or just stopped doing them for whatever reason. I never really commit to them; I have about 4 different ones in my room that were started at different times. I never really commit to anything but that’s another story. But I am committed to keeping up with this. It is important to me; it helps keep me level headed about things.

Well anyway back to my life. It is pretty boring. Nothing new to report. Expect that I am so happy being able to park at the train station. It really saves me some time in the day. I even get home a few minutes earlier now. Which isn’t really a lot but it does make a difference between getting home at 8:30 and 8:40.

I am very happy it is almost Friday. This week has seriously flown by. I cannot believe that the weekend after is Labor Day!! Where did the summer go?? Since that will be my last summer Friday, I decided to take a half-day and have a nice little 4-day weekend. That Friday I will be going to visit some friends in Maryland. I am a little worried about traffic, but I’m hoping if I leave really early I should beat it. I will come back late Saturday so I can avoid traffic, and that way I still have 2 days to just relax and enjoy my weekend.

This coming weekend I will be going to the beach. It’s been so nice out and with summer quickly coming to an end I want to go as much as I can. Plus last weekend my trip to the beach kind of sucked thanks to a creepy old man that decided to stalk me, making me leave much earlier than I wanted. Seriously this guy was ridiculous. One his bathing suit was yellow and completely see through. He put his towel right near mine and proceeded to keep inching closer and closer to mine. He was even lying on his side just staring. THEN when I went into the water, HE went in to. Never right near but I could feel him staring. SOOOO CREEPY. When I got back, he was really close to my towel so I just packed up. As I was packing, he stated to pack up. I got really scared and went on my cell phone and pretended to talk to someone as I walked back to my car. Thankfully he didn’t follow me. He just decided to go down the beach and park right next to another girl; I guess he hoped he would have better luck there. I was grossed out for the rest of the day. Why do I always seem to attract these kinds of people?? Where are the normal guys???

I want to be a teen again!

The weekend with my cousins ended up being really fun. I felt like a kid myself and acted like an idiot the whole time. I loved every minute of it! Including when the waitress thought I was a child and did a double take when I handed her my credit card to pay for the bill. I’m pretty sure she thought I was going to give her cash and stiff her with the tip. P.S. I actually gave her a large tip, because I used to work at a restaurant (hostess) and I know how stingy other people will be with tips. The good thing was only the twins came with their friend and it is a lot more easier to deal with 3 teens rather than 4. Trust me. The only bad thing was it took me over an hour to get to their house, when it should have taken only 30 minutes. It would have been longer if I would have taken the parkway, but my aunt gave me alternate directions that would have been a lot faster minus the car accident that was there! It was still faster than the other way.

Friday when I got back to my house they wanted to go swimming. Thankfully a friend of the family didn’t mind and we ended up swimming at her house at 8 at night. I cannot remember the last time I went swimming so late and just acted like a goofball. We played games, had races and handstand contests. Whereas if I was with my friends we would have just lounged in the water, with maybe the occasional race or handstand contest. I mean I played Sharks & Minnows, Marco Polo, and the movie game! It was GREAT! Afterwards we went for a drive and got ice cream at my all time favorite place, where Bruce Springsteen actually goes to get ice cream, unfortunately he wasn’t there.

Saturday we went to the beach, then to a pool, then out to lunch. They aren’t the biggest beach fans which I don’t understand, but whatever it was their day. Being out in the sun all day completely zapped out all my energy. I was so tired but I still had to get back in the car and drive them home. Thankfully my aunt must have taken pity on me and she made me her delicious homemade pizza. It was amazing and completely made up for all the driving I did. She even gave me a whole pie to take home. Too bad my brother ate almost all of it. He left me a whole 2 slices. By the time I got home, I crashed on my couch and was a zombie for the rest of the night. I am glad though that I did it and I’m pretty sure they had a great time.

Sunday was a crazy day weather wise. It was raining like crazy and we had terrible thunderstorms. Three people were struck by lighting at the beach I usually go to, and one of them actually died! There was no way I was going out in that weather, and I was very happy to just cuddle up with my dog and watch TV for the whole day. Usually I get restless after a while, but Sunday I didn’t move and it was total bliss. The weekend ended much to soon. It’s only Monday and I cannot wait for Friday again!

I hate the DMV

On Saturday I was planning on going to the beach because it was so nice out. Then I realized that I had to get my car inspected because my sticker was going to expire at the end of the month. I figure I would get up early go get my car inspected and then make my way to the beach early enough to beat traffic and all the Bennys. And yes I say Benny because in the summertime they really piss me off thinking the own the beach and that they are the coolest people to ever grace the Jersey shore. But I digress.

I make my way to the DMV and I go through to the part where you get your car inspected. I get my little ticket I need and I follow all the signs saying to KEEP RIGHT. Seriously every 5 feet there is a sign saying to “Keep to the right.” I listen and I go all away around the bend, all the while staying to the right, and I make my way to the front of the line. I am the first car on the line, so I assume I will be out of there in no time. THEN the car inspector guy comes up to me, and I am expecting that he is going to tell me where to pull up my car. Instead he tells me “EXCUSE ME but you are on the WRONG line. You going to need to pull out of here and go all away around to the back of the EXTREMELY long line.”

The line that is on the LEFT SIDE! Please tell me why is it that you have 400 signs saying to keep to the right, when in actuality you wanted me to keep to the left! I was extremely embarrassed and I had to pull all the way around again. I almost just left and was going to go another day, but then I realized this was the only time I could really go and I was already here. 45 minutes later I finally got my car inspected and could go on my merry way. It was almost noon by then and the last thing I wanted to do was go to the beach and sit in traffic. But I already had my swimsuit on. I decided to go and if there was traffic I would just turn around. Thankfully, there was no traffic on my way and I made it to my lovely beach to enjoy the sun and sand for a few hours. It turned out to be a pretty good day.

* On a side note while I was waiting I saw a bunch of cars do the same thing I did, making me a little less embarrassed about the whole thing.

Celebrating the good times

This weekend turned out to be a very nice weekend for me. Initially I didn’t really have any plans but I ended up being all over the place. Friday a few family friends came over who I haven’t seen in a while, so it was so nice to catch up with them. It was a little random though them coming over. You see the reason why they came over was that one of them had a big tick on her hip and she wanted my mom to take a look and get it out (she’s a nurse by the way). Seriously New Jersey is full of ticks its disgusting. After my mom got the tick out and she calmed down and stopped worrying that she had limes disease now we got to catch up and they ended up staying for dinner. Basically what could have been a bad situation ended up being a nice time. Though we are still making sure she doesn’t start to get a ring on her body.

On Saturday I went to the beach in the morning and it was so nice out. Really humid but it was nice at the beach with a breeze. I bought a season pass at this one place near me for only 50 bucks for the whole summer. And it’s per carload so I can take as many people as I want with me. It’s a pretty good deal considering how ridiculous it is that you have to pay to use a beach. In the long run though going to the beach as often as I want for the whole summer is worth 50 bucks. Plus the place I go to pretty much guarantees me not seeing people I went to high school with. Which to me is priceless. Still living in the same town where you went to high school makes you constantly bump into people you didn’t like in high school. Even though you didn’t talk to them then, for some reason they insist on pretending that your long lost best friends who have to catch up for an hour. It’s annoying and gets tiresome after a while. Another reason why I need to move out of my house. I also saw the Chronicle of Narnia this weekend and I defiantly recommend seeing it. I loved it! Not sure though if I liked it better then the first.

On Sunday I ended up going last minute to 2 different BBQs. The first BBQ I went to it was pouring outside so we were inside the whole time. I’m not really sure you can even call it a BBQ anymore if you’re not outside. Oh well. It was still a really good time. It was with a family that I’ve known my entire like. They are more like my family than friends. It was good seeing them, cause nowadays with everyone moving on with their lives it’s hard to get together on a regular basis. Same goes for the second BBQ I went to. It was with more family friends that I hadn’t seen is a while. This time though the weather cleared up and it was beautiful out. Allowing the party to happen outside like it should be. It went from raining outside to being sunny and hot with people going swimming in the pool. The second party was a lot more crazy than the first, possibly cause of the weather change, and the bar was flowing freely. By the time I got home on Sunday I could barely keep my eyes open. I was so glad though that I was going nonstop, it makes the weekend seem much more meaningful. I decided since I hate my job so much, to make the week go by faster I need to keep on planning for different activities so I have something to look forward to.

P.S. On a more somber note, my brother left today. It was weird talking to him last night and saying goodbye. I will miss him terribly.

What should I do?

Man when is this heat going to end??? It’s so hot outside that the inside of my office can’t seem to keep up. AKA I’m melting at work. So my birthday is coming up soon and I’m trying to think of what to do. It’s not a big birthday or anything, but I can’t do what I originally wanted to do which was go visit my friends in Maryland. However the person I would stay with is moving that day and I don’t think she is going to be up to entertaining. It’s just not a good weekend for a lot of them so my visit has been postponed. Then I found out that I need to go to my cousin’s graduation party the day after my birthday. So even if I wanted to I can’t really go anywhere. So that leaves me stuck at home with no one to really hang out with that day. Almost all of my friends have either moved, or still at school taking summer classes. I didn’t really want to do a big thing anyway, but I would like to find something I can do to still make my day fun. So that’s my dilemma. But worst comes to worst I’ll just go to the beach with someone and spend it that way. Which I can’t really complain about now can I??
