Friend of convenience?

You know how last week I told you about my friend who disappeared off the face of the planet?? Well that day she actually responded back to my facebook message!! Coincidence?? Anyway she told me that she wasn't ignoring, just really busy plus she lost her cell phone and didn't have my phone, and to give her a call so we can catch up. Lame.

I get being busy but it takes what 2 minutes to return a quick call? Even if she did loose her phone, I called the girl a few times so she defiantly got the number back. And if say she didn't have my cell number, she could have called my house line. The line that I've had since I was 5 and the number I know she knows by heart. Or if she didn’t remember she had my e-mail. All these ways she could have gotten back in touch and didn't.

My question to you is what do I do? Do I just forget about it can call her back? At the very least to just check in and make sure her life is okay? I've come to terms with the fact that we will never be as close as we once were but does that mean I should sever all ties???

What would you do?

I JUST had a long conversation with a friend about this same issue. My friend and I have a hard time just letting go and cutting off all contact yet you don't want to bother someone who no longer has any interest in being friends. I usually just try to let it go and maybe check in on holidays or birthdays and see how the other person responds.

As much as I hate loosing friendships with people, sometimes you just have to know that you don't matter enough to them and they are always going to have excuses so I don't go the extra mile anymore. They get birthday and Christmas cards and maybe a message once in a while just saying hi.

I would try again maybe calling her back and trying to meet up for dinner or something, and if she continues to act this way I would stop.

Hope things can be saved.

Personally I would call her back but not expect or develop a close relationship with her. I know you were once really close, but people change and grow. I don't want you to get hurt if she is MIA again.

I value every friend that I have ever had, but I acknowledge that sometime things were not meant to last forever.
